UBC’s academic programmes are organized in Faculties (headed by Deans), and Colleges (headed by Principals).

The Faculties at UBC-Vancouver and UBC-Okanagan (some of which are branded as “Schools” or “Colleges”) represent traditional academic disciplines or fields of study and research. They are headed by Deans. The Faculties are in turn organized into departments (traditional academic subjects), schools (professional or graduate-level programmes), and institutes (primarily research-based).
UBC-Vancouver’s Colleges are a newer category, and are intended to facilitate and support interdisciplinary and interprofessional education and research. These units are headed by Principals.
Medicine, Applied Science, and (as of 2018) Education are dual-campus faculties. In these cases, the head of the UBC-Okanagan faculty office reports to the Faculty Dean at UBC-Vancouver.
